I have a job. It has lots of parts to it. One part, the part I dislike the most, is that I basically have to beg people for money.
About once a year, I have to beg people for money until i reach a goal. This is called fundraising.
My job, for those who don’t know, it that I am the Executive Director of This Is HOW, a not for profit organization based in Phoenix, Arizona.
You’ve heard of Arizona, right? The place where idiots are trying to make the people I help suffer more than anyone should ever suffer.
So Arizona is widely known for bad news, and what I would really like for you all to help me with is to get the word out about something that can bring good news to a place where it seems bad is all around.
This Is HOW wants to open up the Phoenix Trans Center. To do so, we have to raise 10 dollars a month from 1000 people.
That’s 10 dollars a month for a year. From 1000 people.
People who do that will get some good stuff — aside from the newsletter, they will get a magazine that we will be printing from the new Trans Center, and they will get a Tote and probably more that we haven’t even figured out yet because we have to have he space to do this first.
Last year we reached out to the community and raised the money to buy a house, that we provide housing and shelter for trans people in.
Most of the people we help are trans people of color, who are disproportionately affected by the policies of the state government of late.
We are seeking and succeeding in making significant changes to the state policies and agencies, but we desperately need this space and this money to keep our good work going on.
We recently lost our office space, and so we felt it was better to open a space for the entire community — which numbers between 8 thousand and 16 thousand Trans people in the Phoenix Area.
Help us out, will ya? We promise it’ll be amazing.
Can’t donate yourself? I know. I live on 400 bucks a month, so I get it.
But you *can* help out. Tell as many people you can about this, and ask them to tell as many people they can, and together we can reach 10,000 people and get that 1000 donations.
The quicker we do, the quicker I have to stop begging, and the faster I can get back to the work that matters.
